Jim McMurtry was born and raised in Toronto, the son of a former Chief Justice of Ontario and Order of Canada recipient.
He is an award-winning teacher who gained renown for standing against the exploitation of schoolchildren for political advantage. Fired by the Abbotsford School District in 2023 for speaking honestly about residential schools, he has become a nationally recognized voice on the failure of Indigenous policy, the defamation of the dead in Canadian history, and the defence of fundamental Canadian values.
His professional résumé is impressive. He holds a Ph.D. in Educational Theory from the University of Toronto and has served as a teacher, principal, and college lecturer over four decades. He has been committed to a life of service at school as a coach, club supervisor, and organizer of events for students with disabilities.
In addition to his love for and commitment to teaching and his country, Jim has built a thriving family, including his wife, a retired vice-principal, his three children and their spouses, all of whom are lawyers, and his seven grandchildren who live nearby.
Jim has deep ties to the South Delta riding, where he resides with his wife and family.
Nobody who has met Jim can doubt his love for this province and this country. Jim is running to reaffirm all that is positive about our province and our country, and he is running to preserve British Columbia’s beautiful and glorious heritage.
